Costa Rica is one of the best sport fishing destinations in the world and produces excellent catches all year round. Our location along the central part of Costa Rica's Pacific coast puts us right in the middle of some of the hottest Marlin and Sailfish fishing action anywhere. We have a wide variety of sport fishing charters to suit any anglers style and budget.

Most of our sportfishing charters are from the famous Los Suenos Marina but we can help make reservations on fishing charters all over Costa Rica. We offer small inshore fishing boats to luxury offshore yachts and even kayak fishing in some locations. Come fishing with us; hook up, and get ready for the sport fishing experience of a lifetime.

Costa Rica Sailfish Action

While most of our sport fishing clients desire offshore trolling for Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna and Mahi Mahi (Dorado) we also offer half-day inshore sport fishing excursions for Roosterfish, Snapper and Wahoo and Costa Rica's famous world record Pacific Snook. The fish bite during Costa Rica's rainy season AND the more popular dry season. Billfish season is best during Costa Rica's dry season but Snook and Snapper fishing turns on when the rains start. Fishing for Mahi, Wahoo and Roosterfish is more consistent in Costa Rica. The weather or big ocean swells only prevent us from fishing a small percentage of the time in Costa Rica.

If an offshore charter isn't in your vacation budget there are some other fishing options available along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Half and full day kayak fishing trips can be arranged for both novice and expert level anglers. Another low budget fishing option in Costa Rica are locally owned and operated pangas (small wood and fiberglass boats with small outboard motors). Very few panga owners speak English and it's almost impossible to book them in advance but if you are interested in this type of inshore fishing we can point you in the right direction or connect you with an English speaking guide that can take you. Some guides even offer surf fishing trips to local rivermouths and estuaries. Live bait fishing off the beach is a great option for the angler that wants to spend as much time fishing as possible. A good selection of fishing gear is available for purchase in Costa Rica at places like Borbon and JMJ but rental gear is not available at most places. Costa Rica Fishing FACTS and RECORDS

The heavier wind patterns in this region of Costa Rica lie a few hours to the north of Herradura giving us mostly calm seas all year round and more fishing time than boats in the North of Costa Rica. The fishing grounds in Costa Rica are between 12 and 35 miles from shore.

During Costa Rica's peak fishing season it's common to release a dozen or more sails and even a marlin or two in a single day. The all time tournament record of 1,691 billfish releases by 120 anglers in four days was established in Costa Rica a few years ago during the International Sailfish Tournament.

There are more than 70 current IGFA record fish caught from waters in and around Costa Rica including 17 IGFA all tackle marks. The all tackle record for Mahi Mahi, an 87-pounder was captured off Costa Rica. The all tackle record Black Snook was caught in 1991 by George Beck just an hour south of Playa Jaco, Costa Rica; it was 57 pounds. Costa Rica holds a total of 7 IGFA snook records - caught on both coasts. Record Jack, Snapper and Barracuda have also been caught in Costa Rica.
