Fishing Charter Booking Information
Making a reservation for a fishing charter in Costa Rica is an easy process but makes many people nervous
because it's a foreign transfer. Cuervo Sportfishing is one of the only booking agencies that allow
customers to pay with a credit card. This is some general information about booking a charter with us.
How do you make a reservation?
If you would like to make a reservation for one of the charters listed on this site send us a message
through our Reservations page - we need to know the name of the boat or outfitter, number of anglers
and dates desired. If you have any special requirements or questions include them in this initial
message. We will reply within 48 hours with date availability.
Payment Methods - Cuervo Sportfishing gives our customers the most payment options of any booking
agency in Costa Rica. You can make payments in the US by check or money order. Pay online using PayPal
or send a payment to Costa Rica via Western Union or a standard international bank transfer. We also
allow customers to pay deposits DIRECTLY to some charter opperators that have US bank accounts.
Deposits - There is no set deposit percentage with the sport fishing community. Most boats require a
fifty percent (50%) deposit to set date and the balance of the payment due the day of the charter - others require
the balance to be paid at least a week prior to day of the charter. Until we post this information we will
notify you of the deposit requirements once we have checked availablity of the desired dates.
Cancelations - Cancelations must be made within 30 days of the day of the charter to insure maximum
deposit refund. Transaction fees are non refundable and some charter operators also charge a cancelation
fee. We will make sure to let you know these details when you book a charter with us. If for some
reason the charter boat you have reserved is not opperating we will try to get you booked with another
charter on a comparable boat or refund your deposit.
Credit Cards - You'll notice that very few Costa Rican fishing charter businesses allow
customers to pay deposit by credit card. This is due to banking regulations that make it difficult to
process transactions for foreign vacations. Costa Rican banks also charge a high percentage fee for credit
card charges. We have a US bank account and can receive credit card payments via PayPal but
since we have to transfer the money back to Costa Rica to pay the charter opperator, we have to
charge a 5% transaction fee to cover expenses.
Discounts - Why are our charter rates a little less than our competition for some boats?
We offer a $50 discounted rate on some of the charters we list. This discount is taken
out of our commission. We offer other discounts and rebates for multiple charters and repeat customers
- ask about them when you make your reservation.
